Hematology billing?
« on: June 08, 2012, 03:44:34 PM »
Hi I have an oncologist who may be interested in coming on board with me. I have no background in oncology billing whatsoever. I do mental health and family practice billing. What am I possibly getting myself into? lol. Is it really hard to do? I don't want to turn away any business but I'm sure it's a lot to learn. Any advice would be appreciated   :)

Everyone has different thoughts and opinions on this.  I personally have never shied away from a new specialty.  I am not saying I promote learn as you go but I do believe if you are a good biller and the information given to you is clean you can do a good job even with a specialty you are unfamiliar with.  I do believe you should do anything you can to familiarize yourself with the specialty.  Not all information given is clean and a good biller picks up on mistakes before submitting the claims whenever possible.  I haven't done oncology specifically so I can't give you any pointers, but I'm hoping someone else on the forum may be able to help you out.

I agree, I always try to learn a new specialty.  This week I have been approached with 2 different specialty's.  It's always great to learn and if you don't like a certain one you can always pass it to some one else and subcontract the work.
