ste:
How much trouble can a chiropractic physician get in for treating a patient who has Medicare as primary and Aetna as secondary and the physician is not a Medicare provider? Annoying denial letters from Medicare? Loss of license? Jail time?
Supposedly, previous biller has been submitting these claims to Medicare for a few months now and obviously without success.
Michele:
I have seen conflicting information regarding this. I was told that a provider cannot treat a Medicare patient if they are not enrolled in Medicare, but I have heard different from others that I consider reliable. I found the following information on chiropractors and Medicare in particular that you may find helpful.
http://www.nwhealth.edu/conted/documents/part1.pdf
It states that a chiropractor cannot treat a Medicare patient unless they are enrolled as either Par or Non Par.
PMRNC:
I also know Chiropractors cannot "opt" out of Medicare as well.
