Sleep Study
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:21:30 AM »
Wow, twice in one week!  I love this forum.   ;)

OK so I need help again......

I have a dr who owns a sleep study lab and he also has private practice.  He has separate corporations for both.  He is asking about the billing for his sleep study lab.  Currently he bills out his sleep study lab as the technical component only and bills the professional component under his private practice as he does the reading.  He is asking me if he should be billing out the sleep study as global under the lab instead of how he is currently doing it.  Common sense tells me it doesn't matter which way he does it, the reimbursement is still going to be the same.  It matters how he wants the revenue to come in.   Does he want the revenue to come in under the lab or does he want the professional component to come in under his private practice.

Am I missing something??  The global allowance is just the technical plus the professional right?  There is no benefit to splitting them out, or keeping them together.

He is not just being greedy....he really doesn't know the way that he should bill it and I believe since he owns the sleep study and is linked to it AND he has a private practice he could bill it either way so it is really just his preference.

Just want to make sure I didn't miss something since I have not billed sleep study before.

Thanks everyone!  You guys are great.

I don't think it matters either but before I say that for sure have you looked at Stark laws to make sure there isn't an issue there?

That's exactly what I was thinking!  Hope he discloses that he's the doctor and owns the study facility!

Yes he does.  Very above board.  We live in an area where there are no other sleep clinics in our town.  Nearest is 30 minutes and only one option.  Anyway, he gets his referrals from other drs and always discloses.

He just has some issues with his billing and thought it may not be being billed properly.  I thought it really depended on how he wanted the money to be reported book wise.
