What is the difference between place of service code 11 vs. 49
bhbilling:
We are an outpatient mental health provider group and has been billing as place of service code 11, want to know the difference between code 11 and 49
PMRNC:
POS 11 would be outpatient hospital
POS 49 is described as : A location, not part of a hospital and not described by any other Place of Service code, that is organized and operated to provide preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, or palliative services to outpatients only.
So if you are providing the services in any portion of a hospital you would not be able to use 49

Am I missing something? Isn't 22 outpatient hospital and 11 office? Is this group part of a hospital but I don't see it?
