New Client...Confused...HELP

(1/1)

mbloom:
Hello fellow billers, I have FINALLY signed my first client - only now I am bout to loose my mind!

I have a few questions so any that you can help on would be greatly appreciated.

1. Are neurology specialties good payers?
2. Besides my company contract, am I supposed to get something else signed? I have seen other mention HIPPA Business Associate agreement on other posts?
3. Am I supposed to notify all payors that I am sending the claims now?
4. Relative to contracts, do most companies give the option to terminate with a 30 day notice? Should you require  a min time of service..lime 6 months
Any help I would appreciate. I have been billing for years but this is my first time doing it myself!

PMRNC:

Any specialty can be a good payor or bad payor, many variables involved to really know.

2. Besides my company contract, am I supposed to get something else signed? I have seen other mention HIPPA Business Associate agreement on other posts?

Yes, you need to have a business associates agreement unless you are operating as a covered entity (SOME billing companies can be considered a covered entity) It's not just about having a BAA signed but you must KNOW HIPAA and you must be client or the agreement is worthless.

3. Am I supposed to notify all payors that I am sending the claims now?

No,  only Medicare does require an 855/change of billing agent notification.

Any service contract will have out clause and early termination clauses. you should have an attorney go over any contracts you do. In addition to early termination I also include an "immediate" out clause which allows me to terminate a contract w/out notice for any provider who I know or suspect is committing fraud or abuse or refused to make a correction or necessary change. The time limit is a just a small tid bit of the out clause. You need to provide details on the termination including what would be supplied to the provider.  A good contract will be 7-15 pages, anything less and you can be assured your getting screwed somewhere. DO NOT DOWNLOAD and use sample contracts.
