Finding a clearinghouse

Question
Hello,
I am looking for a good clearinghouse however getting them to answer questions for me is very difficult.
Can you recommend several good ones that I can use as a starting point?
Thanks.
Randy M.

Answer
Hi Randy,
Finding a good clearing house can be difficult. First there are a few questions you need to ask. What size practice are you? (How many claims will you be sending?) What state are you in? What kind of software do you use? What companies will you be submitting to?

If you are a larger practice you may want to consider acting as your own clearinghouse by purchasing software that will allow you to submit your claims directly to the insurance carriers yourself. If you are not that large of a practice, you may want to check with your software vendor. Most software vendors will recommend a clearinghouse that works well with your software.

Due to the volume of claims that we do, we opted to act as our own clearing house so we are not currently using one. Web MD is the largest clearing house (that I'm aware of) out there but I’m not familiar with their pricing.

My website has a list of questions that you should ask when considering a clearinghouse at http://www.solutions-medical-billing.com/electronicbillingclearinghouse.html

We've found that most clearing houses do not have a direct line where you can get your questions answered. Usually you leave a message and they get back to you. This does make it difficult when you are trying to find one to use.

I hope that helps.
