Advice on getting into medical billing

(1/1)

Queenie04:
Hello, I am a very experienced medical transcriptionist looking to get into medical billing.  Because of the voice activation software my work flow diminished.  I just wanted some advice on how to get started and what books and software would you all recommend to me?  I am a very fast learner and I have worked in the medical field over 9 years with being a subcontractor from home over 2 years.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

What exactly are you looking to do? Transcription really won't be booming in the future as an outsourced solution.. are you looking to do billing and full practice management? do you have any training in that field?

I believe there are educational materials available through this forum/website about medical billing, and there are organizations, such as the MAB, that also have educational opportunities. You can of course always Google "medical biller training" or something along those lines, and see what pops up for materials to educate you.

Numerous vocational colleges offer programs in medical billing/coding also. These are costly, though. And none of this is a guarantee of a job, unfortunately, because so many people are pursuing jobs in this field. Remote/at home work is basically impossible to find for someone without experience in billing. It is a tough market out there.

In your favor, you have medical terminology experience. If you were looking at coding, that would be especially helpful.
