Congratulations on your decision!  Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately there is no way to answer your questions in a single post.  It's going to take you a bit of research.  But you will find a ton of previous posts on this forum that will give you valuable information.

On billing software, there are many things to consider.  First in some cases you may not need software.  You may be able to work directly out of the provider's system.  Some billing services (Linda) use only this model and it works well for them.  Others will have a software and use only their software.  That may turn a couple clients away.  We offer both.  If a provider already has a system and wants us to work from that we do.  If they don't we use Lytec.  We've used Lytec for 25 years.  It works well for us as a billing service, allowing us to service as many accounts as we need.  There are other good ones out there.  I would recommend setting up some demos.  Most companies offer them for free.

As for clearinghouse I highly recommend Office Ally.  We have used them for years as well.  If you have < 50% government payer claims there is no fee.  IF you have > 50% then it's a minimal monthly fee of $29.95  (It's currently $19.95 but it's going up soon.)  Well worth it for what you get.

Not sure what you are asking "how to obtain patient payments".  Your practice management system should allow you to create patient statements.  You would send bills out to patients and (hopefully) they will pay the bill.  Let me know if you have a more specific questions on this.

I encourage you to search the forum for more information, especially marketing tips.  Marketing is the hardest part of this business and there are many great ideas that people have shared.

Hello Dear,

Starting my own medical billing company
-- I am sure it would be exciting to think about starting your own entity.  8) 8)

and have no clue where to start.
-- Assuming!  :) You may already have chalked out some plan.. if not you need to as early as you can..
(suggestion keep a task tracker or to do list)

Any suggestions on medical billing software, clearinghouse, or how to obtain patient payments?
-- I believe only reason you are asking this question because, the facility or Physician or Hospital you are planning to work with is a new one too, because, existing setups should already be using some Medical billing software and Clearing houses to submit their claims.
-- I am sure first they need to be convinced if you want to them to switch on a entirely new platform.
[Usually Practices/Hospitals/Physicians avoid migrating to a new system unless it becomes inevitable]

-- You need  to sort out what kind of medical billing system you are planning for offline or online
I am fan of eClinical Works
-- Search for clearing house they charge on periodic basis, usually they charge in the some range on monthly, half-yearly and annual basis, compare their prices against services they promise to offer.

Generally;
a. would suggest, firstly, chalk down your plan, like list important tasks and prioritize them
b. Figure out requirements to execute your plan and then start implementing your plan
c. Seek answers to specific requirements.

or how to obtain patient payments?
-- Patient fee collection is done with extreme caution, as there are not only legal aspects to it and one need to follow Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) but also Doctor's credibility and good will is also important part under consideration.

I hope this helps

Regards

Well...I would "start" by reading through these forums at least twice. It's the best free education you'll ever get on the medical billing business. I would follow by writing a short business plan, outlining your goals. Next step is to get your financial house in order, and finally prepare to get very serious about your marketing, this is one of the biggest reasons people fail in this business. Once you've accomplished these items, you'll be ready to launch your business.
