: Provider charging clients to file their out of network claims
: barb2512 August 29, 2018, 08:12:44 PM
This is the first I have ever heard of this and don't know if it is allowed. The provider collects the full amount of the fee and then files the claims to the insurance. She is out of network and the claims are marked that she is NOT accepting assignment. So she sees this as a courtesy she provides her clients. Well a courtesy she charges for. Let me know what you think. b.

I don't think this is new, just not widely practiced. If a provider is not in network with carriers they can charge an admin fee to file it. Patient's however can request an itemized bill they can submit themselves if they wish. There is no law saying they can't do this in the absence of a contract.
