: Tax ID #s and NPI #
: carnilent May 16, 2009, 11:06:39 PM
Hi Michelle;

I just contracted my second client.     This Dr. shares the office with three others ( family medicine ),
I am only doing billing for the one Dr.  wouldn't I need both her Tax ID and NPI #?   would this Dr. then be considered an Individual not a part of a  group?

Thanks for your help.

If the doctor is not a part of the group you would need ALL his own individual data including NPI.

You will need both her NPI and her tax ID.  As far as if she is considered an individual or a group, that would depend upon how she is set up with the insurance carriers.  Are all 3 docs billing under the same tax ID and group NPI?  If yes, then she is part of a group, if not, then she is an individual.

She may be a group, but she is the only provider in the group.  If she bills under a tax ID, group name, and group NPI, but she is the only doc using that tax ID & group NPI then she is a group, but a 1 doc group.  That is actually quite common.

You need to ask if all 3 docs bill under the same tax ID & group name & NPI, or do they each have their own tax ID's, etc.

I took it to mean they were just "sharing" the office.

Linda,

  She did say share, but I never like to assume anything.  I've learned that the hard way!  And with Drs you just never know.

Do any of you use Medisoft version 15?  I am a physician (the only one in my own group/corporation) and very new to billing.  I have been unable to figure out how to input my corporation name (and address) into the software for me to see the same in Box 33 of the CMS 1500 form.  The way I have set it up now only results in the provider name (i.e. my name) along with the practice address and the group NPI showing up in Box 33 of the CMS 1500 form.  Any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

I do not use Medisoft but I use Lytec which is similar.  Is there a place where you enter provider info, but there should also be a place to enter practice info.  This is what is printed in box 33.  If you cannot find it, post again.  There are other members that are Medisoft users.
