I don't think anyone can really answer this question. Too many variables. Also very different procedues in credentialing one vs the other.

Are they going to have regular patients that call for appointments, but allow walk ins?  Or are they an urgent care?  They are really two totally different practices.

Day vs. Night   with credentialing requirements, facility setup, billing procedures, even mal-practice, OSHA..the list goes on

Per what client is describing, will function moreso as urgent-care/mostly walk-ins

You probably should review the requirements for UC and see if they meet them.  That may be the determining factor.

Client asked whats the pros/cons of credentialing a new practice location as an Urgent Care vs primary care with walk-in

Hello,

I have client with same situation. Client is opening Urgent Care (Short of walk in practice) with limited services. This means they will not have imaging or minor procedure room or lab on site. Some payers like BCBS of MD has credentialed provider as PCP but provider is not willing to accept that. I tried to explain her that actual urgent care needs investment of approx 1 mil and UCOA certification. Can anyone shed a light on how should we credential this provider and practice, Family/primary care provider or ????

Thank you.

I would think they would be considered a general or family practice.  They really are simply a regular office that doesn't require appointments.
