Do non- psychiatrists report E& M codes? ex.. PHd, PsyD, CSW, MSW, LCSW....
They obviously don't use med mngmt codes...right?
The above specialties CAN report 90791/90792?
when do you use E&M as opposed to 90791/90792?
thanks!!!

E/M codes may not be billed by a psychologist; these are evaluation and management codes only, as it is evaluation and management, not therapy. These codes are for MD, PA, NP, CNS etc.
For the psychologist, the new intake code is 90791.
found this on another forum ;D maybe I am answering my own questions!

Actually if you look at the coding descriptors it does NOT say MD any longer as there are certain providers who are able to now prescribe such as Psychologists. You have to check with your state and their scope of licensing. MOST of you who have psychologists will KNOW if they received this additional credential. The description is now available to "prescribers" it no longer states MD or physician.

I have been informed by a few insurance carriers that for medication management with my M.P. (medical psychologist-has rx rights) he may only use 90863 with the therapy add on codes. The carriers will not cover E/M codes nor the 90833, 90836, 90838,etc etc etc for him.
