Hello!
I work for a new medical billing company and I have a couple of questions...Do we need a NPI number so that we can be in box 33? Currently the provider name is in box 33 and all the EOBs go directly to the provider. Is there a way I can change this so we process the EOBs first?

MEDICAL BILLING COMPANIES DON'T NEED AN NPI....

Charlene is right, no NPI's for billing services.  If you want eobs to go directly to you (and provider agrees) you must change the correspondence/pay to address with all carriers.

You need a lock box (cannot reassign Medicare pmts) and unless you have a surety bond it's not a good idea to have checks go to you. You should talk with the bank on lock box procedures.

Exactly, you should first create a Lock box.

additionally, for most major insurance have turned to EFT's, fund will be directed to account and remits will be updated.

you can probably speak to your vendor to check whether they have contracts to get remits to upload in their site for your referrence
