Dear Members:
I need advice from the experts. I have 20+ years of office experience and have recently been laid off. As I search for employment, I see that medical billers and coders seem to be in demand.
I have some billing and collections experience but not in the medical field. Are online medical billing courses a good way to learn how to do this work? If so, what do you think I need to look for in a quality course?
Thank you for any direction you can give me.

When I wanted to change careers to Medical Billing I got a job in a doctors office as receptionist and learned the industry. Within 2 years I was a Certified Medical Biller. Healthcare offices would prefer to hire someone with healthcare experience as opposed to schooling.
good luck

I agree, we prefer to hire employees with experience rather than schooling. We have heard of some online courses though that are good. I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. I had planned on getting some info for you, but I went out of town for a couple days. I will forward this to Alice to see if we can get you some more info.
