: Patient Statements

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

I have a question about patient statements.  How old is too old to send patient statements?  Are there any types of regulations or laws against how far back you can bill a patient.  For example, if a patient comes in for a visit in 2009 but does not receive a bill until 2011 because of insurance and billing errors, is this wrong?

I value all opinions.

Thanks.

Each state has their own rules, you have to check collection and consumer laws for your state. Generally speaking if you can bill them that far back.. good luck collecting, patient's would have a good argument for not paying it, especially if there are those who maybe now can't send to their insurance or something that was denied and could have been appealed.

Linda,

I agree... the issue was that some patients were receiving statements while others were not.
