I am wanting to go through some training to become a medical biller.
What are your thoughts on the Medical Billing and Reimbursement course through on the AAPC.com website?
By reading through some of these post I am finding that there are a lot of rules when it comes to billing medical claims and want to make sure that I am getting the best training I can find to do my job correctly and efficiently.

I am not familiar with the AAPC course.

I would take a look at the course syllabus here: http://static.aapc.com/ppdf/Medical_Billinga_and_Reimbursement_Syllabus_07-101.pdf
I do want to touch base on what you said:

In my experience I find that the course best for you really depends on what you want to do. Are you seeking employment or are you planning to start your own business. There is a SIGNIFICANT difference. A course such as the AAPC course SEEMS like a standard online course that will help SUPPLEMENT learning to do medial billing but it will NOT prepare someone for all of the actual functions and regulations of starting your own business. For example, in reviewing the AAPC course syllabus I noticed there was NOTHING about HIPAA compliance, security, transactions, policies/procedures, etc. So IMHO this type of course is a great STARTER but MUCH more will be needed if you plan to start your own business. So I do think you need to decide which way your leaning first and then make a decision about training.

I will be just seeking employment.

When I checked the syllabus available in their website, I eventually realized how dedicated they are in training aspiring students like you. It's also a great opportunity for you, like what you've said, since you're interested in working in this industry. I've had experienced with some medical billing processes since I'm working in an outsourcing company that offers healthcare services. If I would be given an opportunity like this, I'd definitely grab it! Good luck, august! :)

Thank You!

I don't try to be a ball buster..but to just be HONEST and upfront... If you will be seeking employment, you will want to know it's a VERY VERY tough career to bust into.. no matter what your education is. W/out experience, and if you will be seeking employment it's going to be a tough road, especially in this economy as well.

This course does not teach medical coding in depth, nor does it prepare students for the CPC® exam. While AAPC does not currently offer an exam or credential for medical billing, the information presented in this course will enhance coders’ expertise and help them become more successful.

I haven’t got much idea about that course, but I can tell you about the course CareerStep offers because I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews about it. It’s completely online and designed to help you establish a firm foothold in the medical billing and coding profession. Visit http://www.careerstep.com/medical-coding-billing to get more details.
