: New NP
: stellerdobes April 22, 2022, 01:49:27 PM
The office I bill for has hired a new NP.
The MD says I have to review every note she does to make sure its correct and matches DX she puts on the Encounter form.
These are sent to me at the end of the day to bill from (I do not work in office Im contract labor).
My questions is do most billers do this?

I remember talking to a biller years ago who worked for a billing service and they don't have access to the medical records for the office they bill for.  If they need a copy of the note from a visit for insurance purpose they contact the office and a copy is sent to them.  Has this changed

In my opinion this is not normally the job of the biller.  You are not a coder.  Are they just asking you to do this for a few days?  Weeks?  Is it something you feel comfortable with?  If it's temporary, and depending on my relationship with the MD, I may agree to spot check a couple, or watch the billing to see if the dxs match the service.  But it they are expecting you to check her coding, that's a bit out of your scope as a biller.

This will be a on going thing until she proves she knows what she is doing.  I can code but thats not the point as you stated not my job.  He is expecting me to check every note she does and inform her of her mistakes and what she should have done instead.
I spent 45 mins on 2 patients and this np still does not get it.  She has never worked as a np before shadowed our other NP 2 days before she left for leave and he turned her loose.  He is in the office 1-2 days a week the new np is here 3 and a half and he expects us to watch her.
He is setting his self up for a mess I won't no part of

You are in a difficult situation.  Is he the type of person you can explain this to?  If so, I would try to explain that she needs more training and it should be from him or another NP.
