I bill for a family practice doctor who just got a contract for after hours urgent care. I am aware of some of the codes but I have a question on the 99050 do I attach this code even if the insurance companies don't cover it? I was told to add this code to show the insurance that the service was done in urgent care. Is this true? If not, what tells the insurance it was urgent care if I'm still using regular office visit codes? Any info would help. Thank you.

99050 doesn't indicate performed in an urgent care facility, it indicates after regular office hours. So you would bill for that code in addition to any of the other codes that you are billing for (regular office visit codes) if the services are performed after the hours that the office is regularly open. There are no special ways to indicate 'urgent care office'. If the services are being performed during the regular hours of the urgent care then you would just bill the regular office visit codes.
