Hi Everyone: It's been a while since I've been on the site, it's great, just haven't had a lot of time on my hands....I've got a possible opportunity and before I meet with the practice I was wondering if someone had a suggestions for me. At this point in time I use Therapist Helper for my billing software and use the claims connect service. I pay a startup fee for each counselor I enroll in the software and I pay a yearly contract fee for each of them. When I enroll new clinicians (which they have always been individual practices), I charge a flat fee for startup and then I charge a flat fee per session. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to charge when you set up a group practice. I would still, I imagine, have to pay the software company for each clinician, so I would imagine I would have to charge a flat fee for each clinician? Just seems like this would be expensive for a group practice to start up, would they expect this? There are 8 clinicians in the practice......I hope I'm clear as to what I'm asking......any suggestions?
Also, does anyone have any tips on starting up with a group practice as this is my first?

I am not familiar with Therapist Helper so I'm not sure how that works. I would call to verify if you have to pay per therapist, or per billing EIN/NPI. It may be quite expensive if they charge the the same price for an individual even if they are part of a group. The set up fee (if it has to be per each therapist) may scare them away, so you want to be sure before you quote it. You certainly don't want to scare them away and find out you weren't right.
With a group practice you should have the group info loaded, then each individual. You would indicate which therapist treated the patient, then you would indicate the group billing information (EIN/NPI). Basically the individual npi goes in 24J, and the name goes in 31. The group info goes in Boxes 32 & 33 with the group NPI.

I'm confused. I have group practices that use Therapist Helper (I'm not a fan) They only pay PER Group, not per therapist.

Thanks Linda, I will double check on this.....I know that years ago (if they signed up a while back), you could sign up as a group, but according to the person I spoke with yesterday they have changed that. I will call though to verify.....
Linda, same question for you as I had for Michele....would you mind sharing what softare/claims connect that you use?
Again, I am so comfortable with Therapist Helper as I know it pretty much inside and out......but maybe I need to think about spreading my wings a little in the software dept....

If my client or potential client does not have a PM system setup I use Kereo. I market however being able to use just about any PM software either by means of access or remote.

Thanks, so far all of my clients (all mental health providers) are not computerized at all. They are either brand new practices (one sizeable), and doing well, the other two are small practices, they have a full time job at a community agency and then have a small private practice...so I do their private practice.
I think before my contract renews with Therapist Helper in mid May I should investigate other options.....again, I know there are probably others out there that are better, right now I'm just alittle nervous about transferring and learning a new software and set up of counselor information etc.....anyway, thanks I will check this one out.

Hi,
I use Therapist Helper and really like it. I work at a group practice and some contracts are through the group - BC/BS and Tufts and some are credentialed through the therapist, each of which are considered independent contractors also. It depends on the way they are credentialed with each insurance co. So billing for each insurance company may be different re: different information in 24J and 33. I have no problem separating this in Therapist Helper. At this job I use Emdeon to bill not a huge fan.
I also do work at home for 2 independent therapists and have Therapist Helper and Claims Connect (love it)and have not had a problem. One is part of a group and the other is not. It's just how you plug the numbers in in the libraries. I do believe Therapist Helper does charge by each therapist at sign up as they have to enter all the info for each one. Worth calling them and checking as the rules do change.
Perhaps I just feel comfortable too with Therapist Helper as I've used it for 13 years and so decided to go with it when I wanted to work from home too.

Hi Pati: I would be curious to know what problems other people have had with Therapist Helper, as I too really like working with it and have had no problems. I use their claims connect as well. I've been researching other companies just because of cost, and so far haven't found anything cheaper, except, that is, for Office Ally with their free on line claims submissions. I know quite a few therapists using this and are happy, but I kind of like having everything in one place. I haven't ruled out keeping Therapist Helper and using the free on line Office Ally.....
