How to determine what to charge for services in New York
« on: April 15, 2020, 06:54:38 PM »
Hello,

I am an experience medical biller helping a contractor start a medical billing company.  I needed assistance with how to charge for billing services ? Especially in NYS.  Been looking everywhere to see how billing companies set up their fee structure with no luck.  Also, what do you take in consideration when evaluating an office to charge for services?  And can you give in-depth  what start up fees are for when charging? Is that the charges for the software fees ? Or clearing house etc

Thank you

Michele

Well, NYS is one of the states that fee splitting is illegal and enforced.  So nationwide the most common method of charging is by %, however in NYS that is not allowed.  Another common method is flat monthly fee.  We take several things into consideration when determining a flat monthly fee.  SOme of those include the specialty of the provider, the amount of patients they see per day/week/month, the fees for the services they provide, the amount of time it will take to complete the work, and the average receivables.  We don't charge set up fees, software fees, or clearinghouse fees separately.  We factor that into our flat monthly fee.
