Outsourced compliance?
« on: June 23, 2014, 06:50:22 PM »
Is anyone aware of companies that offer outsourced compliance as an alternative to hiring someone? In addition, if you have experience with outsourcing compliance, any feedback is appreciated.

In what aspect? There are various compliance services that consultants can do, Most however do require the consultant to be / visit on-site.
I've done full compliance programs, HIPAA shadowing, HIPAA auditing, etc. Depends on what specifically you need.

Looking for someone who would do annual or semi-annual reviews of processes, review process manuals, and be the go-to person for compliance related questions.  Ideally they would handle both clinical documentation and revenue cycle.

This person would need to be on-site, especially to be a compliance officer (basically what the go-to person is) Also since they would be handling clincial documentation the person definitely should be on-site.
What you could do is hire a consultant to do the reviews of the P&P, manuals, etc, but it does sound like you want someone ON site to handle the other issues. Hiring a consultant would be costly for onsite, I would probably say your better off hiring the compliance person on staff, they could do this part time IMHO depending on the size of the practice.

If I were you, I wouldn't outsource anything that is required to be HIPAA compliant to the 3rd world. That includes India. It will come back to bite you in the butt if your clients are audited and they will be eventually audited.
