I was told today by ins. carrier that I should be using a modifier if I send in a "corrected claim". I asked which modifier and she said she couldn't answer that question. Usually when I have to send in a "reconsideration" I do not have to correct the claim - it's because I'm sending in clinical progress notes requested, or other documentation. But recently had to send in a change on a claim, so can anyone tell me what modifier I would use?

I am not aware of a modifier that indicates 'reconsider claim' or 'corrected claim'. Is it possible that one of the services that you are billing for requires a modifier? It sounds like the service was denied but if you had a modifier on it they would have paid it. They can't give you the modifier that you should use, but many times that is how they indicate that it would have been paid if the appropriate modifier were on the claim.

I have heard of carriers having their own modifiers for such a thing and some carriers require you to write "Corrected Claim" at the top to avoid being processed as a duplicate.. but I don't think there is a recognized modifier ?
