: ICD 10 Codes being denied by Medicare (Psychiatric)
: MEDOPTIONS99 November 03, 2018, 03:17:44 PM
I am noticing that Medicare has started denying some of the DSM 5/ICD 10 codes that were always paid in the past.  I cannot find any information on this!  The services are for psych, and the denial code is "missing incomplete invalid patient identifier" which has always corresponded to the DX being an issue.  Any insight on the new codes to correspond with F25.0, F25.9 and F43.21?

Thank you!
Michelle

I don't believe the denial "missing incomplete invalid patient identifier" has anything to do with the dx code.  It sounds like the patient's id number is not accurate.  It's hard to be sure without more info but that's what it sounds like.

Thanks for the response.  I think you are right!  I know when I checked this before it wasn't the case and all of these patients have the same DX so I assumed it was some new denial code.  Duh.  Obviously that is what the denial indicates, but I know I checked others in past and the ID# was valid.  Not these more recent ones though so I could be thinking of something else.  I work too much.

Again, thank you.

No problem.  If you have access to Medicare online I would check eligibility.  Their system is usually pretty good about having accurate information.
