Hello- I purchased your home study course awhile back. It has sections such as secrets to signing up your first doctor, the basics of medical billing etc. I like, and use it a lot, one question though: Since I only have 3 doctor clients (#4 signing up soon), do you folks think I need additional M/B schooling at this point?

He purchased a book package I believe.  I'm not sure why you are thinking you need you may need more M/B schooling.  Are you having any difficulty with the accounts that you have?  Or is it just that you would like to be signing up more clients?

Is there a accreditation?  For the courses.

We have certification for Certified Healthcare Reimbursement Specialist and Certified HIPAA Information Specialist if you are interested.

Although most people are interested in the credentials, I feel that these exams should be used to teach you what you don't know. Although there is no national standard for credentialing for medical billers, I think it is important to find out what you need to work on to become as knowledgeable as possible. My take on this.

Merry, Will the courses prepare you for the test to be Certified?

Before I'm accused of having an ulterior motive.. I suggest doing a bit of research..
http://www.nationalmedicalbillingcertification.com/

This has been a pet peeve of mine for MANY years.. what certification can I get.. AMBA, HBMA, MAB, ABC, DEF, blah blah blah blah.. they offer certification NATION WIDE.. they don't offer national certification because one does NOT exist!!   Doctors have NOT heard of or care about those associations.. The've never heard of them and they don't care. They care about their BOTTOM LINE!!  I'm not saying those associations or organizations are not credible.. I'm saying that consumers and those getting into this business need be a bit more PRUDENT when we are shopping around. SURE you may get other benefits from these organizations and associations.. not saying you wont'.. but do NOT look to them for "CERTIFICATION" above and beyond your OWN expectations for education.   Go by what you are going to gain in terms of education. NOT the letters you will get from completing "A" medical billing course.

Kinlaw..The certifications have nothing to do with medicalbillingstudycourse.com. Is the information there? Yes, in most cases absolutely but the course is not a guide for the certifications.
They are totally different..online..and my feeling is that they should be used to help you understand what you do not know. Sounds strange probably but I have had these for about 15 years. They are always updated and I think I have proved my point when someone says..Oh I am so glad I did this. I didn't know how much I still did not know. By using the Internet and not some study guide that is outdated the minute it is printed, you know that you are getting the most updated information (as long as you look at the dates on the Internet).

Once again.. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NATIONAL CERTIFICATION..   YOUR EDUCATION is only as GOOD as the course and resources you utilize and educate with. Those with NO prior experience or knowledge in this field will need to supplement ANY course and it's harder. Those even with YEARS of experience need to understand they will always be spending money on continued education, ongoing and ever changing regulations.  My point is NOT to listen to vendors who claim to have "NATIONAL Certification"... anyone can offer it.. I'll give you a national certification if you want for reading this post <g>

I have to add to Linda's post because I certainly agree with her. There is no Mandatory National Certification for medical billing at all. I am certified through an association and that is explained by Linda's article that she referenced. I chose to go for certification but I also researched what I would learn in those classes, I've been doing this for 17 years and I still have to keep learning. Getting a good education and staying on top of things is what matters and what will help you succeed.

Education and training are the most important phases of a medical coders life. It is during these stages that you can learn many new and useful things. A medical billing and coding school will not only help in gaining proper knowledge but will also help you gain a practical view about how things really work.

AHIMA is not certification for billing. AHIMA relates to coding/HIM.
