Inpatient billing while pt still admitted
« on: May 13, 2020, 04:07:51 PM »
I am currently trying to bill for an operative report done by our physician at our local hospital with POS 21, the patient was approved for a 7 day admission which has now continued into week 3 with no set day of release. How do I bill for my physicians scheduled operative report done in the hospitals operating room while the patient is still admitted and I do not have a discharge date to put on my HCFA? our clearinghouse kicks it back to me if I do not have the hospitalization dates and I can not use POS 22 as this was not outpatient surgery. Please help

Usually when it is asking for the hospitalization dates it only requires the admission date.  We submit claims all of the time without the discharge date.  If it doesn't work you should contact your clearing house to see what you can do.

Agree with Michele. We only need to put admit dates on our claims for IP visits/surgeries.
