We are a small physical therapist owned clinic in the state of Virginia.
Payment is based on Medical Necessity and we are fine with that and how to show it... what we want to know is when the patient plateaus and we can no longer show Medical Necessity but wants to continue physical therapy and their physician concurs, can we offer them to be self pay and not bill their insurance?

you have to look at the payors contract and determine if it can be done or not. Also if you do this it has to be clear in your office policy/financial policy so that patient's know ahead of time.
