: Psychologist in training
: laceyx08 December 14, 2011, 10:50:15 PM
I'm getting a psychiatrist as a client who is starting her own group practice. It is just going to be her by herself until January and then she plans on hiring a psychologist who is still in training. She said she heard that I would just bill under her (the psychiatrist's name). Is this correct and is there a specific modifier that would go on that to state that?

Thanks

Is she overseeing the training of this new psychologist?  Is the psychologist in some kind of residency program?

I'm not sure about the residency. She will be overseeing her.

Did the psychologist receive their license yet?  It is my understanding that it is illegal for one dr to bill for another dr's services under his/her name.  The only exception that I'm aware of is if the one dr is still completing their training and the other dr is overseeing.

The person she will be overseeing is an LLP, if that helps

I would check with carriers, not sure the LLP will be covered even with supervision.
