Medical Coding Test
« on: March 13, 2020, 11:42:59 AM »
Hi Everyone
I'm going to be taking the medical coding test (CPC) this year AGAIN.  I'm having a hard time with the timing of the test.  My  reading comprehension is not good and trying to read the case studies and coding within the time frame is really hard for me.  Anyone who has taken and passed the test I welcome any advice and input given.

Have not taken test, but know many who have. Some strategies they have mentioned are to take numerous practice tests, to flip through test and handle questions you know the answers to immediately, do "rule outs" of answers based on skimming through the case studies, and finally, if you are almost out of time, just choosing any answer at all, so that you at least complete the exam, and have a certain percentage of getting the answer correct, versus not answering at all.

All of that said, and please don't take offense at this...being a CPC means having excellent reading comprehension and attention to detail. You are going to be expected to accurately code charts in a certain time frame, once employed. Most jobs expect X amount of charts to be code in X amount of time, with the accuracy of the coding to be at a certain percentage, or they let you go. Now may be the time to ask yourself if this is the career path for you, or not.
