Looking for New Client
« on: February 05, 2020, 02:09:23 PM »
Hello everyone,
I am a new billing service and have been actively marketing for about a year but haven't had much success. I am sure something similar must have been discussed here earlier. However, I am at a point where any help or tip or any work will be a welcome change.
Here's my story: I was able to sign one Podiatrist as a client in September. I agreed to sign contract at 5%. However, he has been giving me all his old billing and is very unorganized. I have been getting all his old claims paid to the best of my capability. He doesn't even give me copies of insurance cards. All the information is handwritten and sometimes wrong date of birth is written, I even have to track the Payer-ids myself, that's the extent of his disorganization. He even doesn't want me contacting his office and sends me all his fax by himself. This doctor doesn't even collect copay from patients. He is very old school and usually tells me that he can get his billing done for a cheaper rate in India. So, I am kind of stuck. I don't want to loose this contract because I don't have any other right now. For the amount of work that I am doing for him, I am not making any money.
I have tried marketing using - phone, walk-in cold calls. sending postcards, emails, networking- telling all my friends and family about my billing service, even my doctor and dentist. Basically, all the things that should be done to land a potential client.

If any of you is looking to hire remotely, or has too much work that you can't handle please keep me in mind. I will truly appreciate any lead and will work diligently.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I've probably typed this a million times.....marketing is BY FAR the hardest part of starting a billing service.  There is no quick answer, or secret for us to share.  It's truly a numbers game.  It takes A LOT of nos before you get a yes.  Unfortunately your only client is difficult (to put it mildly) and you are stuck.  But quitters never win, so you have to keep yourself motivated and stick to it.  That is hard, especially when you are doing it by yourself.  If my mother and I weren't doing this together we may have given up.  There were times where one of us wanted to quit, but the other pulled us up. It sounds like you are doing a lot.  Do you have a website?  Any social media accounts?  Facebook page, Instagram?  Those are some free things you can do to try to get some interest.  Have you tried targeting a particular field?  Like podiatry since you have a podiatrist for a client.  We find that mental health providers are usually a good one to target because they don't usually maintain office staff.  You can do phone calls and leave messages since most have answer phones and not receptionists.  Another marketing technique that only costs time.

Bottom line, you just have to keep pushing forward.  There are many previous posts with different ideas on marketing if you go back thru the forum.  Keep your chin up!  Good luck.
