I have recently taken over the billing for a mental and behavior practice for 11 providers so far it's crazy the person who used to do the billing billed some claims and not all. Also they never did anything with $0 paid claims what are some of the questions I need to ask when talking to insurance companies.
A few I already ask are:
Was it paid? If so, when? Where was check sent? and what date was it paid?
Can you help me know what other questions to ask Im fresh out of school go figure they did't teach us anything about calling on claims.
Thanks

It sounds like you got the idea. If you are starting from scratch and don't know what has been done that is what you should be asking:
Was the claim paid?
If yes, when, how much and was check cashed?
If no, why not?
Good luck!

I can do you one better. I once worked for a lab that did 1200 speciman a day that did nothing with $0's. They were wondering why their bad debt was out of control....real rocket science!

I'm always amazed at how a dr don't want to pay to have the billing done right but will throw away hundreds of thousands of dollars having it done wrong!
