Closing Practice Questions
« on: May 12, 2020, 12:23:32 PM »
Our GA office has been standing empty for many weeks now (as I am sure many others are) and all of our patients are seen via telehealth.  The doctor now wishes to close the office to save money, and will seek a new office space once the COVID 19 Public Health Emergency ends.

My main concern with closing the GA office is that we will no longer have a facility or billing address for insurance purposes. I know that we cannot use a PO box for either of these, and the doctor refuses to use his home address (which happens to be in another state and could cause all kinds of claims/credentialing issues anyway).

The doctor suggested utilizing a "virtual office address" where our mail would be received and then forwarded on to his home address, but I am not sure that this is would be permitted by insurance (and none of the provider reps I have spoken to could give me a clear answer.....shocker!!).  He also asked that my own personal residence address in GA be used for insurance purposes, and I am not willing to do that!!

Please can anyone here offer me any guidance?

Some insurances, definitely Medicare will not forward so a virtual address will not work.

I definitely wouldn't use my personal address.  Most insurances ask for a physical location where services will be rendered.  How does he wish to handle that?  Is he planning on doing only telehealth?  I do not believe all insurances will continue to allow it for long after the quarantine is up.
