i think you have to register with DOI..dept of Insurance in NJ
-
Yes Webs, you do need to register with the NJ DOBI. Make sure to follow all the rules when submitting the application, 3-ring binder, etc.....My application is in and I need to supply them with additional information.....I suggest if you register your business as an LLC. online with the State of NJ website, order an extra copy of your 'Certificate of Formation' and pay the extra $50, just in case the online certificate does not pop up as a PDF file (which in my case happened! >:()
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions :)

Hi,
Thank for answering my question.
I have register company as S-Corporation. not LLC.
Then also I need to go though NJ DOBI or not necessary?
Thank You,

Yes, you still have to go through NJ if you are in NJ or doing business in NJ.

I am also opening a business for physician billing services in NJ. I have a Certification for Medical Billing. I would only be doing the CMS 1500 for physicians seeing basically Medicare patients in a nursing home.
I went to the NJ website for small businesses. I went to the county store and got the Certificate of Trade Name. Then I filled out the NJ Business Registration Form on the NJ Website and mailed it in.
I went as a Sole Proprietor. Not an LLC. As my company is basically me.
I have a question, I saw on this website that we need a certification for billing Medicare and Insurance Companies? Can you explain that to me, do I need to get this.
Also, thanks for the tip - I will check out registering under the NJ DOBI ... and getting a certificate of formation.
Let me know what else I need to do to get started up to bill Medicare and insurance companies... I want to make sure I am compliant.
-
what type of certification?? Do you mean you need to be a certified medical biller to file claims?? If that is your question, then NO you don't have to be certified.
-
NJ has laws regarding medical billing. I don't think it's the certification you (Charlene) are referring to. Hoping Medauthor will clarify this for her.

Yeah NJ sucks , because if they are saying also that even though I am based in NC, that I would have to be registered to bill for clients based in NJ, I would never take on a NJ client. Personally I prefer NC clients all around. Its easier for me to go "break a leg" in case I don't get paid!! I'm skeptical of clients who will outsource to out of state providers and not looking at someone local. It just doesn't make sense to me. I am very very leeeeeery of them.

I thought I had...above...LOL
Jackie, sorry we didn't 'connect' the other night....Yes, even if you are a sole proprietor, you need to register with the NJ DOBI. You would only send in a Certificate of Formation had you registered as an LLC, but you didn't, so therefore, I would only send in your trade certificate you rec'd when you registered with the county. When you print out the requirements (what to send in with your application), you will see all the items you need to submit when you send it in. If you want my contacts at the NJ DOBI, let me know...

Booo NJ..LOL

THanks Medauthor, I thought you had too, but then I thought maybe I was missing something!

http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_insurance/managedcare/tpapage.htm#tpb
This link has all the info needed. Yes even if you are in another state but doing business IN NJ you have to complete the registration. It's not a certification, it's not a license. it's "registration" big difference. There is no appointed board in NJ able to tell you that you do not meet "certification" guidelines.

You all r so helpful. I did everything me city said and county, but did not do anything on NJ DBI.
But I'm doing it now. Here is my question what from do I feel out the one the states
Application for Licensure or Registration Form or Application for Certification Form?
Everytime we do anything in this state it seems like you have to fill out a form and give them money for something.
-
if you go to that link: http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_insurance/managedcare/tpapage.htm#tpb in purple you will see the regulations for TPB's, that's us.. Third Party Billing Services. The regs is the first link. The second link tells you what you need in your 3 ring binder. That is your request for NJ Certification, the licensing area is for TPA's Third Party Administrators. If you are a billing service only adhere to the info in the purple section for TPB's. There is no fee, but you'll make up for it in the time it will take to prepare what you need. Be aware again, I have had billers requests denied or sent back just because they didn't number the pages according to the directions!

Thank you so much.

WOO HOO! Certification from the state of NJ came in yesterday's mail! Even though my company's primary function is not "thrid-party billing", I had to fill out the application to add 'third-party billing service' as another service to my existing business. Things have changed from when I started by first billing service in 1997; the state did not require the application back then; only registration with the county.
