: Charges and codes

I have this other question for an auditing training.

a newborn male with the following ICD-9 diagnosis codes present – 765.0 (extreme prematurity), 770.89 (respiratory distress) and 774.6 (jaundice).  Given the ICD-9 codes and additional information that can be gathered from this limited information, what charges/procedures might you generally expect to see on such a claim?

I would expect to see some critical care codes like 99291 & 99292 as well as additional procedures listed in the Inpatient Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care such as 99466, 99467, 99468 - 99476. I think this takes care of the treatment provided in connection with the respiratory problems. Also, depending on the weight of the infant, we may see codes like 99478-99480 that takes care of the prematurity, along with some injection & administration codes for the Jaundice. I would love to see comments from the experts too.
