Hey everyone! I do private tutoring for elementary school kids, and lately a lot of parents have been asking about non-screen brain exercises for kids who get easily distracted or frustrated during homework. Do simple 5-to-10 minute physical drills actually help calm down a child's nervous system and extend their attention span, or is it mostly overhyped?

Honestly, the physical concept behind it is pretty sound. When a child's sensory or nervous system is overloaded, forcing them to just "sit still and concentrate" usually backfires. Quick physical breaks especially cross-body movements or balance drills help discharge that built-up motor energy and reset their attention span before opening a book. I actually came across a helpful leaply reddit review (https://www.reddit.com/r/pilatesreformer/comments/1venl9g/leaply_reviews_my_mom_has_been_using_it_for_a_few/) while looking into different routine planners on Reddit. From a coaching perspective, having a clear 5-to-10 minute structure keeps it manageable for families. In my tutoring experience, having a student do a short physical routine right before homework makes a night-and-day difference in getting through a session without constant meltdowns.
