Nursing home billing question
« on: February 13, 2019, 08:26:55 AM »
Hello,
If a patient is in a nursing home and they have Medicare, under Part B, can they be billed for laboratory testing separately or will this go under a bundle for nursing home stay?  Will Medicare and Medicaid pay for it separately- the urine screening test?

It depends on if the patient is in the first 100 days of their stay.

Hi Michele,
If they are in for their first 100 or 101, how would the urine lab test be billed for Medicare? Bundled or the lab can bill separately for it? Thank you

I believe lab fees are included with consolidated billing so the SNF would be responsible.  If you bill it to Medicare Part B they will deny the charges if they are included with the first 100 days.  The SNF should also know.
