Drug Screens in office

Does anyone bill for Drug Screens done in the office?
Our provider wants to start doing these in house.  They will be read by him and our nurse no equipment used just visual.
What codes are used for this and what are you getting back from insurances?

We used to bill for a doc that did drug screens in the office but he stopped years ago.  The insurance carriers did pay well at first, but they stopped paying him and wanted patients to go to a lab.  So he stopped.  The codes were always changing and it's been years since we've billed so unfortunately I'm not sure of the current codes.

What type of drug screens are you doing?  There were several different ones back then.  If you provide more info we may be able to help.

If your provider is simply doing a POC cup, then you would use CPT: 80300
HCPCS: G0434, but remember POC cups really should not be used to make medical decisions. This even says it on the instructions for the cups.

Your provider should consider using a lab like Cordant Health solutions to send out for  screen to confirm, he can still bill for reading the cups and and doing the testing in house and the lab can bill for the screen.
