e- prescribing and Medicare claims
« on: July 18, 2009, 09:39:25 PM »
Hi everyone, I have another question,  my client is faxing over a form along with the superbills for medicare patients.   the forms heading is Adoption/use of e-prescribing.
this form has G codes   G8443 G8445  G8446   What is this about?
I have over 20 years of billing experience and never seen these.

thanks

G8443 just means that all prescriptions created during the encounter were generated using a qualified e-prescribing system.  G8445 means no prescriptions were generated during the encounter, provider does have access to a qualified e-prescribing system and G8446 means some or all prescriptions generated during the encounter were handwritten or phoned in due to one of the following: required by state law, patient request, or qualified e-prescribing system being temporarily inoperable.

Line 24 is the procedure code line.  The g codes would just go in like any other cpt code.

I'm assuming they mean the equivalent of 24 on the CMS which would be the procedure code line.
