I bill for a clinical psychologist whose specialty is sleep medicine and behavioral sleep therapies. She treats basic obstructive sleep apnea as well as insomnia and other sleep disorders. She is concerned about the most appropriate coding to use for her office visits as she is not an MD, although she is fellow trained in all areas of sleep medicine.
Typically, patients are referred to her from their primary care or other specialist with a sleep related diagnosis. Can she use E & M codes, even though she is doing no exam? Should she only be using Health & Behavior Coding?
Any help you can give in this area is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
