Newbie to Medical Billing

Hello! Hope everyone had a great holiday! I'm new to the medical billing business. I took a course in July 2008 and unfortunately, due to an accident, I was not able to start up my business as soon as I wanted to. After 2 years and the job market being as low as it is, I've decided to begin my venture as a medical biller, once again. My fear is that I've been "out of the loop" for a while and I may not be able to do this. I've been studying all of my old course materials to brush up, and I've decided to specialize in Chiropractic and Physical Therapy. I was trained using DAQ Billing. Any suggestions as to getting my feet wet again would be appreciated. Also, I noticed the link to purchase several courses through AMBA. Should I invest in these courses? Would it be best to purchase the online course regarding Chiropractic Billing? Also, due to costs, DAQ seems a bit pricy, any suggestions on billing software and does it make a difference as to wether it's web based or not? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Did I not post this in the correct area? I've noticed that my post has been read, but there's no reply to it. Do I need to post this ? in another forum?

Hi,
I'm not really familiar with DAQ billing software but I have heard quite a bit. I can't speak as to its features, but I do believe it is a bit pricey. Although a good software will cost you and this is not an area that you want to skimp on. We use Lytec and are happy, but I would like to switch someday to a web based software. We have been experimenting with some, but haven't made the move. Switching softwares is not easy, so it is best to start with one you can grow with.
It's a good idea to start with a particular specialty so I think you are on the right track. I can't comment on the AMBA courses since I don't have any personal experience, but I have heard good reports. Anyway, if you brush up on your billing from your previous course material, you may not need an entire course. But it certainly wouldn't hurt. If the finance part isn't an option, you might want to go for it.
Best wishes on your business.

I am in the same situation as you, husband was in a motorcycle accident this year so I had to take some time off from my business though I got the certification in Dec 08. I am now taking 2 refresher courses, one from the medicalbillingcourse.com and the other from the authors of this forum site. These are both two great courses to take as a refresher.

Alice and I don't have a course. We do offer a two day training in our office which is a hands on course tailored to the needs of the individuals attending. More info on that can be found at

PMBA is an online course offered by Michelle Rimmer who is a member of this forum. She goes by medauthor. (She uses 2 'l's in her name, I use one.

Since you are familiar with DAQ you might find medicalbillingcourse.com a better fit. We have SEVERAL members who have taken their course and it is more geared towards business ownership for medical billing.
I have not really run into anyone using DAQ who complains, from what I hear they are wonderful in terms of getting your client up and running, training, etc. I will say yes, it's a little pricey but you will get what you pay for.
