EKG in Procainamide Infusion
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:00:44 PM »
How do I bill for and EKG done every 5 minutes during a Procainamide Infusion for Brugada syndrome. I have the billing for the infusion, but I need to know how to bill for EKG's every 5 minutes. Procedure was done in an outpatient hospital setting.

Are you billing the TC or the readings?  How many EKG's were done?

I am billing for the reading.  The EKGs are being done in the hospital.  The doctor's note states EKG done every 5 minutes, but the copies are in the chart.  I would have to count them, but let's say there are about 8.

Many carriers may not allow for the multiple readings, but I would code it with an '8' in the units.  If it is only allowed once, I would submit an appeal, but again, I wouldn't be surprised if it is not allowed for multiple readings.

Good luck!
