ER to Inpatient to SNF Scenario
« on: May 03, 2012, 05:03:06 PM »
If a Patient comes into ER and gets registered with Acct#12345678. Then a few hours later, that patient goes to Inpatient ICU, that patient will still keep the same Account number as well as there would only be one UB04 billed out, which would encompass the ER revenue 450 listed on that UB. I mean there wouldn't be a UB04 for the ER charges, and then one for all the IP charges, correct?

Then to add another twist: same scenario as above, and then the patient transfers to SNF. In this case, it would receive a seperate account# since the entire SNF visit would have to be billed on its seperate UB04 due to the Type of Bill code would change from a 111 to a 21*, correct?

My biggest interest is finding out from members on this website that have different HIS systems, if they do indeed create a new account number per major change of service.

Your question is really specific to your facility.  Different facilities will handle the situation differently based on their procedures.  I'm assuming that the SNF is also part of the same facility?  JMO but the account number shouldn't matter whether the services are billed on 1 UB04 or multiple UB04's.  It should be based on the need, i.e. if the type of bill changes with the services.
