"So how are you Michelle my name is John and I am new to the forum and to medical billing and coding.  I believe that I will be in the mental health arena as well. My question is how is that side of the house as far as coding and billing and what should I need to keep a heads up about?

Thank you so much for your help and time.  Have a beautiful Christmas."

I received the question above in a personal message.  I'm posting it in the public area without the name because I think they would benefit from the opinions of all.

Personally, mental health is going to be a mess after 1/1/13 due to the changes in the codes.  That's not a reason to run though, it's a great reason to jump in (if you know what you are doing).  More and more mental health providers are going to need billers more than ever after 1/1/13.  I would read up on all of the upcoming changes and make sure you understand them.  There is a lot out there, make sure you go to a reliable source.

Actually, now that I've had a chance to get a bit more educated on them, here's a secret tip.. the confusion is going to lie in the area of providers not accustomed to different verbiage or the use of the E/M codes for non MD's.  These changes are NOT as difficult as people think at all. I'm in middle of posting all my notes from a class I just took with two of my clients on these changes in our members only mental health section, and they way they broke these out and simplified it made me go "Oh .. it's not so bad at all".   :) :)

One big tip.  MH billers are used to the simple 90862  "Pharmacological" management or medical management if you prefer,   CPT 2013 gets rid of those definitions all together and replaced with "Medical Services"    If you change your thinking on this alone, your 85% there. :)

Hello everyone my name is Kitten and I am new to the forum, I am looking to start a home based medial billing company within the next few months, I currently work with medicaid/medicare claims
how do I choose the software to purchase and since we handle all providers how do I determine what specialty to bill for.

I am really excited, I welcome any advice

Buglet10:
Do you have your notes finished?  How do I get them to read?
Thanks, Pati

PMRNC:
Yes, they are in our members only area, if you are a member you can visit www.billerswebsite.com and login. In our free newsletter I did briefly do an article on coding with the new mental health codes.
