COMANAGEMENT OF CATARACT PATIENT
«

Can someone tell me about the co-management of a cataract patient between the opthamologist and optometrist? Is the care billed together as part of a global procedure? Or do they bill their services seperately?
Thanks!!

It is billed separately. The surgeon would bill using the 54 modifier to indicate surgical care only and the optometrist would bill the cataract surgery code with the 55 modifier to indicate post operative care only.
